Born in the boonies

I worked in the sports and features departments at daily newspapers for almost 20 years, taking a leap of faith into full-time freelance sports writing in August 2003, also hoping to devote more time to working on my book projects.

I honed my skills at newspapers in Nebraska, Illinois and my native Wisconsin.

Since going out on my own, my byline has appeared in such publications as:

Newspapers: Janesville Gazette (where I worked from 1991-2003), The Walworth County Week, Delavan Enterprise, Lake Geneva Times, Madison Capital-Times and Sun Prairie Star;

Magazines: BadgerNation, Wisconsin Trails, Collegiate Baseball, Inside Wisconsin Sports, Wisconsin Sports Weekly, Referee and Blitz;

Web sites: MinorLeagueNews.com.

I received my bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1983, which is where I met my wonderful wife, Carol. We have two children, Trevor (21) and Rachel (18).

My love for and interest in writing started sometime in grade or middle school in Elcho, Wis., where I graduated from high school in 1979. Go Hornets!

Growing up in the northwoods of Langlade County, I never envisioned getting a book published, but today I'm trying to finish my fourth!

Hopefully that's just the beginning.
